Mother pitches in for batting practice

Tyler Sampson has an advantage in preparing to play for Vacaville National Little League in the District 64 All-Star Tournament for 10- to 12-year-olds. Whenever he wants to take batting practice, his mother can pitch in – literally. Lisa Sampson (left)  is no stranger to  the diamond, having played softball at Fairfield High and UNLV.  When his mother  is pitching and big brother is swinging, 7-year-old Dillan (right) can lend a hand by shagging.

Surviving despite arriving a bit tardy

Devin VanWart of the Vacaville American Giants appears to dead on arrival at third base, but he was safe when Dixon’s Drew Arguello dropped the ball on the tag. The Giants beat Dixon 12-2 in the District 64 Tournament of Champions and will play the Vacaville National Expos for the title at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Arlington Park.
