Skyline Designs Delivers Custom Art

A bulldog puppy is one of Trevor Carrington's numerous creative designs for his customers.
Trevor Carrington began training for his career as a graphic designer during his days at Vacaville High School. He doodled on his book covers, drawing bulldogs and “whatnot,” to pass the time.
His caricatures can now be found on T-shirts and letterman’s jackets. Carrington and his sister, Dina, joined forces in 2004 and turned their creative skills into a business by opening Skyline Designs, “Where The Champions Go” for custom screenprinting embroidery.

What makes their shop unique is Trevor’s ability to transform a customer’s idea into art. Dina then turns her brother’s drawings into custom embroidery to personalize a patch, shirt, jacket or cap.

“We’re the first ones to do the custom jackets. The art is what sells the products,” Trevor said. “If someone wants a bulldog drinking a Slurpee and tossing a Frisbee, I can draw it. We can do that.”
The challenge for Trevor comes when a customer does not want a caricature to look like a comic book superhero with bulging muscles bursting through a uniform. Fortunately, Trevor has a softer side.
“Sometimes people want a cute and cuddly bulldog or wildcat, but that doesn’t transfer well because they’re rough and rugged animals,” he said. “What I’ll do is toss a bow in their hair or make the bulldog a puppy.”
The Carringtons’ creations are on display at the shop, which is located in Suite B at 293 Orange Drive. The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 447-5901.
