Jen Griswold and Janet Davison can transform an empty room (below) into a colorful creation.

Jen Griswold was not looking for a business partner when she called Janet Davison. Griswold was in need of accessories for her home staging business and knew Davison would have ample to offer.

Staging intrigued Davison at a time when she was considering retirement after working in interior decorating “forever and a day.” As the two women talked, they began to realize they had much in common.

Davison’s husband retired from the Air Force. Griswold’s husband is currently serving, and she is a reservist. More importantly, the two designers discovered they shared a passion when it comes to creating beauty for their clients.

That was how Cozy Chic Design & Home Staging was born. Retirement will have to wait for Davison, who joked that she could be Griswold’s mother given the 31-year difference in their ages.

“It’s a unique combination, but I had no hesitation,” Davison said. “(Staging) was a fresh idea, and I really liked what she was doing.”

Davison had much to offer Griswold in the partnership. Griswold was yearning to make a name for herself in the local decorating business and knew Davison “had a big following in Vacaville.”

“It was a springboard for me,” Griswold said.

The age difference may be a blessing, Griswold said, because their clients will get the best of both worlds.

“I actually think it makes us more appealing,” she said. “We have different talents that we recognize.”
