Kathy Rybicki applies the lessons she learned from her father to assisting her Allstate clients.
Kathy Rybicki earned spending money as a 12-year-old by working in her father’s real estate office on Saturdays. His rationale was any unanswered phone call could be a missed opportunity.
In his own way, Jim Danaher taught his daughter that money is made by people willing to earn it.
Danaher also showed his five children how to make money work in the stock market. Rybicki did not always heed that advice. As far as she was concerned, money was meant to be spent.
“He’d ask me, ‘What do you have to show for your money other than that pair of shoes you couldn’t live without,’” she recalled.
When she attended Boston College and the University of Michigan, majoring in economics and psychology, her father paid for room and board. Other than that, Rybicki had to make it on her own.
All those lessons formed a foundation for Rybicki, who owns and manages the Allstate Insurance office at 350 Merchant St. with partner David Legoullon. In her father’s footsteps, she has become “practical to a fault.”
Her clients rely on Rybicki’ss knowledge and experience to avoid making mistakes with their money.
“It is interesting how much information is not out there,” said Rybicki, who can fill in the blanks.
Rybicki went to work for Allstate in 2003 when the agency was “looking for women who were comfortable talking finances.”
Her father could attest to Rybicki’s knowledge of that subject.
