Dr. Alex Tam does not believe in "twisting, cracking or popping" when he is treating a patient.

His mother was at the end of her rope. The cortisone shots and medication did not work. Trigeminal neuralgia, also known as the suicide disease, had her in its excruciating grip and refused to let go.

Dr. Alex Tam was willing to try anything to ease his mother’s pain. He eventually took her to a chiropractor certified by the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association in hopes of finding a modicum of relief.

 That decision has proved to be beneficial in more ways than one.

“Within two months, all of her pain was gone,” Dr. Tam said. “I have not found anything close or as powerful as this.”

Dr. Tam was so pleased with his mother’s progress that the aspiring chiropractor decided to become certified in the NUCCA technique. His Vacaville office is the first NUCCA practice in Solano County.

The NUCCA technique involves the alignment of the C1 vertebra, which Dr. Tam described as “the fuse box.”

“There’s no twisting, cracking or popping. The patient barely feels any pressure,” he said. “It doesn’t take much to move the bone.  If you’re misaligned by 1 millimeter, it can have detrimental effects.”

Dr. Tam graduated from UC Davis in 2005 and then attended Life Chiropractic College West in Hayward. He and his wife Helen, a physical therapist, have decided to make Vacaville their home.

“I really liked Davis. It has the feel of a community,” Dr. Tam said. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about Vacaville. This will be a good place to raise a family.”
