Cozy 01162Homebuyers form an opinion about a house in as few as 10 seconds, even before they reach the front door. To make the first impression a positive one, more and more sellers are turning to home staging.

Jen Griswold and Janet Davison can ensure a home attracts attention in the real estate market through their company, Cozy Chic Design & Home Staging. Their services can help a home sell in half the time and for as much as 10 percent higher.

“As a seller, it is essential that your house stands out from the competition,” Griswold said. “Staging is simply the smartest way to market your home when you are up against so many other houses at such competitive prices.”

Staging typically costs from $200 to $5,000 in the Vacaville area, and Griswold think sellers should think of it as “an investment.” Staging services are often tax deductible as a home improvement in preparation to sell.

There is much more to staging a home than decorating it to catch a buyer’s eye. Davison and Griswold are both certificated through Home Staging Resource, so they know to market a house.

“Rather than personalize a space, like we would with traditional decorating techniques, our goal in any staging project is to depersonalize a home so that potential buyers can visualize themselves in the home,” Davison said.

The designing duo recommend that sellers stage a home before putting a property on the market because the cost of their services is almost always less than the first price reduction.

Griswold launched the company a year ago after she and her husband, an Air Force pilot at Travis Air Force Base, went home shopping in Vacaville. Many of the houses were not all that appealing.

“A little staging” was all those houses needed, Griswold thought, so she started Cozy Chic. She then joined forces with Davison, who has more than 33 years’ experience in the decorating industry.

Davison is also a military spouse, so Cozy Chic offers “generous” discounts to military families.
